University of Florida Purchasing Directive for Departmental Vehicles

It is the intent of the University to purchase vehicles with the highest fuel efficiency and therefore lowest greenhouse gas emissions.
Purchasing Services maintains a listing of pre-approved recommended vehicles by vehicle type and class at www.purchasing.ufl.edu/approved_vehicles.pdf to assist departments with choosing a vehicle for purchase.
The University will purchase hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles whenever possible. Equivalent “gas only” vehicles may also be considered under the following circumstances:

The cost differential or lead time for the recommended hybrid or alternative fuel vehicle would negatively impact research and a “DSR Exemption” has been approved.

No hybrid or alternative fuel vehicle exists within the vehicle type and class needed.
The purchase of used vehicles will also adhere to this directive.

When ready to shop for any vehicle for departmental use, please review this List of Approved Vehicles.

This updated guide contains all vehicle specifications from the FuelEconomy.gov website to assist you as well.

The State of Florida Contract for Vehicles has expired, so please feel free to contact Local Dealers to obtain two quotes for any of the Approved Vehicles. Best pricing will determine vendor selected.

Long-Term Rental Options

Rates include collision damage waiver ($1 - total loss) and supplemental Liability Protections (split limits 100/300/50). Rates include unlimited mileage within the State of Florida and neighboring states. The exception is on all monthly rentals, there is a cap of 2,500 free miles per month.

Gainesville locations:

This contract allows for the delivery of the vehicle to the renter.

Personal use: The same rates may be used for in-state personal rentals. Use customer# 43A3256. Note: Insurance coverage is not included.

Automotive Batteries

The State Department of Management Services has not opted to rebid or renew this contract, therefore, departments are encouraged to shop for best pricing in their respective localities.
