Sustainability

Sustainability at UF can be traced to "a grassroots movement of students, faculty and staff from a variety of academic and administrative units." This movement gained momentum when in 1990 President John Lombardi signed the Tallories Declaration, promising to make environmental education and research a central goal in this institution.

The purpose of the movement was to increase environmental literacy on campus, examine current practices to reduce environmental impact, and create a culture of environmental stewardship.

The University of Florida’s purchasing directives support the purchase of commodities and services that will minimize any negative environmental impacts of its work.

UF Purchasing Services is proud to have won awards tied to sustainability efforts, including the following:

WE CAN ALL WORK TOWARD A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE FOR US AND THE GENERATIONS TO COME.
